Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue District, The Dalles, Oregon Division Chief for Training and Volunteer Recruitment/Retention

The Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue District is seeking a leader to assume the new position of Division Chief for Training and Volunteer Recruitment/Retention that will report directly to the Fire Chief. Under administrative direction, the position directs, manages, supervises, and coordinates the activities and operations of the assigned division. The Division Chief needs to be self-motivated with exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills. The Division Chief should possess knowledge and experience with fire/EMS volunteer programs along with the ability to respond to emergencies in a calm and timely manner. This is a four-year grant funded position. The district desires to but cannot guarantee continued funding for this position.

Education and Certification:  A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required with a minimum of an Associate’s degree (Bachelor degree preferred) in a public protection field from an accredited college, university, or a combination of education and experience meeting this requirement. Completion of the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program or comparable leadership program is desirable.

Oregon EMT-B or equivalent is required (within 6 months of employment).

The following are desired and will be required by the end of the 12-month probationary period:

NFPA Fire Officer 1,

I-400 certification, and

Oregon DPSST Wildland Interface Engine Boss Certification or comparable.

Experience and Other Qualifications:

A minimum of five years of increasing responsibility fire/EMS experience

A minimum of two years of management and administrative experience at the Captain level or equivalent, or a combination of education and experience meeting this requirement

Must possess, or be able to obtain, an Oregon driver’s license in accordance with Oregon Statute Possess an Oregon EMT License (or higher) or equivalent certification with the ability to obtain Oregon License within 6 months of appointment.

Desired Qualifications

BS/BA degree or MA/MS degree in a related field National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer certification

Experience in a combination fire department utilizing both career and volunteer members


Must reside within the Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue geographic boundaries within six months of appointment. Must participate in the districts Duty Officer rotation regardless of residency.

Must successfully complete a 12-month probation period

Salary and Benefits:  Salary range of $5737 – $7636/month, depending on qualifications, generous benefit package, Oregon Public Employees Retirement System.
