Burning in Piles and Incinerators

Burning OUTSIDE the city limits of The Dalles is now open to piles and incinerators, with a valid burn permit. Fires must be extinguished by dusk. There shall be no burning after dark. Burn Permits are required.

Burning INSIDE the city limits has now opened. Small piles may be burned following all burn permit rules.There is no Incinerator burning within the city limits. For questions regarding the City of The Dalles burning ordinance, please contact the City of The Dalles. Burn Permits are required. Burning within the City Limits will commence on October 16th and extend through December 1st.

To obtain a burn permit, you can come to the fire station at 1400 W. 8th Street in The Dalles or you can obtain your permit by clicking HERE or clicking Burn Permits in the top header. Permits cost $5 and all permits expire on June 30th of each year.

Outdoor Burning

In areas OUTSIDE the city limit of The Dalles and within Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescues district, burning in incinerators [barrels] will be allowed from sun up until 11:00AM. Those wishing to burn need to obtain a burning permit by stopping by the fire station at 1400 W. 8th Street. You may purchase your permit online by clicking on Burn Permits in the top header.   • Burning is allowed all daylight hours until December 1, 2016.
  • After December 1, 2016, burning will be restricted to areas outside the city limits of The Dalles.
  • Permits are required to burn.
  • Burn barrels are no longer allowed inside the city limits.
